estrés invernal

What is “winter stress” and how should you protect your skin from its effects?

With the arrival of low temperatures and the external aggressions typical of this time of year, the skin can suffer from what is known as winter stress. During these months, climatic and environmental conditions can dehydrate and damage it, making it feel drier, rougher and duller. But there’s no need to worry: with some specific care, you can keep your hair healthy and protected throughout the winter. Here’s what winter stress is and how to protect your skin from its effects from Montibello Skincare.

What causes “winter stress” on the skin?

Winter stress arises from a combination of stresses that affect our skin from both indoor and outdoor environments.

Indoors

When we are indoors, the air is often drier due to heating, which reduces ambient humidity. Lack of moisture, coupled with indoor pollution and toxins, can contribute to skin stress. High heating temperatures can also affect the skin barrier, causing the skin to lose moisture quickly.

Outdoors

Cold, dry outdoor air is one of the main causes of skin dehydration. In addition, cold wind can be abrasive and damage the skin’s protective barrier, leading to irritation, redness and dryness. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is still present in winter, especially in snowy areas, and can cause skin damage even if we do not feel the warmth of the sun.

How to take care of your skin during winter

To protect your skin during the winter season, it is essential to adapt your skincare routine both indoors and outdoors.

Care in enclosed spaces

  • Deep hydration: uses products with active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, polyglutamic acid and ceramides to help keep the skin hydrated. The Hyalufeel range deeply hydrates thanks to hyaluronic acid. It also contains skin-perfecting active ingredients.
  • Temperature control: keep temperatures in the home below 22°C and control the water temperature in the shower.
  • Use a humidifer: will help combat indoor dryness and alleviate respiratory problems.

Care in the open air

  • Protect your lips and hands: apply a nourishing lip balm and moisturise your hands with a specific hand cream..
  • Sunscreen: UV radiation is also present in winter, so don’t forget to apply sunscreen, especially in snowy areas. Use Sunage Water fluid SPF50+, a very high protection sunscreen with a light finish.
  • Dress warmly: use natural fabrics such as wool or cotton to protect your skin from the cold.
  • Repair your skin: if you have sensitive skin, you should use products that prevent irritation, flaking and redness, while if you have dry skin you should include facial oils in your routine to boost hydration. Supreme Gold Elixir is a dry facial oil that delivers intense nourishment and repair to the skin with 15 precious 100% natural oils. For sensitive skin, Hemp CBD is a two-phase cosmeceutical serum that acts as a global skin de-stressor.
  • Nourish and hydrate from within: maintain a healthy diet and drink enough water to help nourish your skin from within.

The first step is to prepare the skin, with a deep cleansing followed by a cellular exfoliation, using Pure&Botanics products. This is followed by the moisturising phase, in which a mixture of hyaluronic acid and CBD (with the Hyalufeel range and SkinExpert Hemp CBD) is applied, using a facial suction cup massage to optimise absorption. This is followed by a regenerating mask and a moisturising cream specific to each skin type. The treatment ends with a gentle relaxing massage that promotes disconnection and general wellbeing.
